It is an example of how a filmmaker makes an irresponsible work to make Biblical movie.Taking artistic license to tell a story ultimately changed the real events as narrated in the Book of Genesis. It seems that producer deliberately made up everything, to show that Bible for him is just a book of fairy tales.Only the presence of Jon Voight and his performance as Noah together with the cast saved this movie from the lowest rating. Good times, bad times, you believe in me." And why a 500-foot- long ark? "I think big! I made the world in seven days!" Joining Noah on the trip of a lifetime is his wife Naamah and many animals. So why Noah of all people? As God tells him, "You fit the bill. It seems the Lord has a special assignment for him: since God is planning on destroying the world with a massive flood, he wants Noah to build a giant ark and fill it with one male and one female of each animal on earth.
Noah is an ordinary laborer who one day begins receiving messages from God. It tells the Biblical story of Noah's Ark from the Book of Genesis. Murray Abraham,Mark Bazeley,Jonathan Cake,Alexis Denisof,Emily Mortimer and Sydney Tamiia Poitier.

Noah's Ark is a 1999 TV movie directed by John Irvin that features Jon Voight and Mary Steenburgen together with F. Oh, well, I am interested to see other comments about this thing. Was it entirely tongue in cheek? Did I miss the whole point because no-one was supposed to be serious. I am as open minded as the next person, but I'd like to hear some sort of justification for this mess. The scene where the whole family goes temporarily insane is when I finally gave up. He had this silly conversational voice, somewhat indecisive and flippant, sort of like George Burns. There is this thing about not putting a rudder on the boat so they are floating around, as if they knew where they were going anyway. Most of the film involves the Noah family sitting around being bored. I know it is a mini-series, but visually it is awful. The animals are superimposed using computer graphics but not very well.
One of them develops a ventriloquist act and talks to an orange for about an hour. Noah, played by John Voight, is a buffoon, and then they have these three sons who shovel dung and complain. Her character is a mawkish idiot, spouting 1960's June Cleaver dialogue. This has got to be the lowest that Mary Steenbergen has gone. Still, with imagination and effort, it could have worked. You can imagine a screenwriter, trying to adapt about two Bible chapters into a four hour mini-series. If Noah had gone up the mountain to get the Ten Commandments, I wouldn't have been surprised. I also didn't know that he later became a pirate and tried to board the ark. I never realized he kept her finger in a jar after that.
She looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt. I'm sure all of us remember Lot! He's the guy who left the city of Sodom with his wife. I am no Old Testament scholar, but the way the script played fast and loose with the details, was really disappointing. This incredible mess occupied four hours I will never get back. I can't imagine watching this with anyone other than fellow film students or a significant other you've been with for years.I now know what eternity would be like. This movie has depth, but it's not an easy watch. When you've become an accomplice you ate equally guilty. The following orders defense will never work. It shows what happens when people blindly follow terrible people and abandoned their own sense of decency. You will feel that humanity is capable of terrible things and sometimes for no real reason other than they can.
You will not finish the film feeling happy, relieved, redeemed, or satisfied. Apparently based loosely on the Marquis de Sade's eponymous story, it feels feels icky.

I don't need to go into the plot, just don't watch if your skin crawls easily. There is an underlying exposition of a fascist government and it's ability to control to the most depraved extremes. But it's not disturbing for the sake of it. This is on the list of most disturbing movies ever.
